Clinical Hygiene
Pain associated with teeth and gums is
generally a sign that
something is wrong. Not only is it uncomfortable,
but it has a tendency to disrupt our lives as well.
Tooth and gum pain often interfere with our ability to eat
and drink, and can limit our ability to enjoy even the most
celebrated occasions. In essence it shackles our
ability to enjoy the world around us by focusing our attention inward.
Whether as a result of injury, or the onset of gum disease or tooth decay, with very few exceptions, oral pain and discomfort is preventable. Sound oral hygiene that includes brushing and flossing provides a strong defense against both gum disease and tooth decay. Regular professional cleaning and examination by a certified dental hygienist not only augments home care, but ensures that potential problems are detected and treated long before they become painful.

The dental hygienists at Deadwood Dental have many years of professional experience and a strong following of regular patients. They are adept at painlessly removing soft and hard deposits that accumulate on and work to weaken otherwise healthy teeth and gums. In the process, they carefully examine the dental surfaces, recording the presence of any abnormalities. In addition, they take time to review the patient's oral hygiene practices and, when appropriate, discuss ideas for improvement that fit with todays busy lifestyles. |

Our hygienists use an assortment of different tools to complete their tasks. Hand and rotary instruments and ultrasonic devices are used to clean and polish teeth, including removing calculus, stains, and plaque. Our hygienists are certified in use of x-ray machines to take dental images. Additionally, they are fully qualified to perform root planning as a periodontal therapy, or apply cavity-preventative agents such as fluorides and pit and fissure sealants. Above all, our hygienists help patients develop and maintain good oral health, and are fully experienced at explaining the relationship between diet and oral health, as well as helping patients select the right toothbrush and guiding them in how to brush and floss. |
